Popular Tyre

Popular Tyre is a collaboration between two musical stalwarts that have risen from the dark days of the cold war, 20 years of Tory Britain, Top Of The Pops, and Adrian Blunt.

They are a new wave of songwriters, DJs and producers that shake a stick at anything formatted, pigeon holed and generic. Their studio processes always involve heavy drinking, drug taking, stints to the Hmm Chicken fast food joint on Tooting Beck High Street, and a creative process that’s nurtured and caressed instantaneously.

Popular Tyre love everyone, and everyone loves them. They are loved for their unpretentious melody and their lyrical genius, their surreal outlook on life, and their way of constructing a vision, a feeling, a performance that can only be described as similar to being happy-slapped by a gang of marauding lesbians ......... you shouldn't like it but it hurts so good.

 Quinn started playing at the early Acid House parties in London in 1988. At weekends he was playing at the infamous Sunrise & MFI parties before putting on his uniform & going back to school on Mondays. He started messing around with his dads drum machines & sequencers & began making techno tracks with Justin Drake (now of Peace Division). Together they released tracks on many labels including Andrew Weatheralls' Sabres Of Paradise, Club Craft, Fuck Pig & many more. Later he formed differentGear with Gino Scaletti & had massive success with some of the biggest tunes of the last 7 years.

Patrick was also a scruffy young tear-away out of his depth in the burgeoning Acid House scene. His love of acid-house was first realized when he became a regular at the Dance Wicked nights held under the arches at Vauxhall, he then went onto taste the sonic delights of Colin Faver at Rage at Heaven. School on a Tuesday morning was always an interesting contrast to skull dancefloors and strawberry fields. He has since recorded for Next Century Records, and as The Askesian Society for Toolroom & CR2 records, as well DJing all over the world.

 The idea or Popular Tyre came when the two met puffing cigarettes in a friend’s corridor in New York. Out of their heads on Ketamine & high on comradeship the two realized they had the same musical vision, and at once promised to make some music together when they got home. The idea that was to become PT was born. The rest as they say, is history, waiting to be written..

 Live dates so far have seen them supporting Black DanieL & Quad Throw Salchow, two of the most promising bands in England at the moment, as well as headlining the Anti-folk Festival UK. Their live set veers merrily from Country to Electronica, banging Acid House, Old School Hip Hop & the odd ballad...all done with middle fingers extended firmly in the direction of good taste & bad vibes.

Combine all the above elements with spot-on mixing skills & live vocals/vocoders extolling the virtues of wine, sex & excess in all areas & you have the recipe for carnage.
